A finish!!!

I finally finished my Hands All Around quilt. I was hoping to have it finished by the end of May so I would have something to show to the "Spring to Finish" group that Jacquie was holding at http://tallgrassprairiestudio.blogspot.com/. I didn't make the deadline, but I am content because I finished it after almost 2 years of just sitting around!

I used Amandajean's http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/ binding tutorial to make my binding and I have to say that I absolutely love it. It was so easy to make, and fun too!

Isn't pretty all rolled up? I just used scraps from my batiks to match the batiks in the quilt blocks themselves. Looks like candy!

Here it is going on to my quilt.

Here is a close-up of the binding after I finished it.

And here my quilt is all done! Sorry for the poor light, we are having an over-abundance of rain lately.

On a sad note, our mama hummingbird abandoned her nest about 3 days after I posted about it. We had the most horrendous thunderstorms during that time and I have to wonder if that had anything to do with it. We have yet to take it down, but we will soon. I will take photos of the inside of the nest so we can all see if there were eggs in there or not.

Have a great day!

  1. Love it! I cannot get over how beautiful those fabrics are....not to mention how well you used them in your project. You are so talented and you really inspire me to try new things. See you tomorrow!

  2. Gorgeous finish, Donnelly! A treasure to be sure.

Sorry to hear about momma hummingbird abandoning the nest. My tree swallow visitors have babies but I can't see into the birdhouse to see how many. This morning when I hung out my washing I could hear the chirping coming from their house.

As of yesterday, I now have House Wrens busy building a nest in one of my other houses. Hopefully I'll be able to get some photos but they are so tiny and fast.

BTW, what a beatutful tatted doily that you made for Candace.

  3. Love your quilt! Very clever. Yes please, use the hat idea, it's not mine or anything, just something schools around here do. Great day of fun for them.
